I am Melanie Smith from the Ocoee High School FFA Chapter, and this year I will be serving as the Orange County FFA Federation President! I am going into the 11th grade, and my 6th year in FFA. I love all things livestock, as I have shown chickens, turkeys, goats, and sheep! This year I am ecstatic to serve Orange County FFA members to the best of my ability. I compete in public speaking, and career development events throughout the year, and I can't wait to see all of our members at competitions! Not only am I active within the amazing National FFA Organization, but I play travel softball as a catcher and third baseman. If you all ever need me, you can find me at the softball field, ag yard, or in the trails on my 4-wheeler!
Livestock has had an incredibly large impact on my FFA career and on my life as a whole. I've owned a flock of thirty chickens, I've raised 4 turkeys, 12 goats, and I am on my 4th market lamb. You can find me at the Florida State Fair, Central Florida Fair, and at jackpot shows throughout the state.
I have played softball since I was 10 years old. Playing sports has taught me communication skills, finding the will to push through hard times, and how to be a leader. Playing softball may have it's perks of bruises and broken bones from time to time, but I wouldn't trade my experiences from it for the world.
Advocating for agriculture is extremely important. With a growing population, it is the FFA members within our county that will solve the world-renowned issue of how we will feed our world in the future. The world relies on us FFA members, and I can't wait to see the future of agriculture.
